The Association Dominican of Rectors of Universities (ADRU) on Monday favored maintaining the achievements achieved in higher education in terms of creation of capabilities in research and innovation.

The organization issued a release after the Government today announced its proposal to merge the ministries of Education (Minerd) and Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) as part of the public spending reform plan.

The entity said it is willing to collaborate with the process.

“We are pleased to announce that ADRU is committed to participate actively in the process of consultationintegration of the different components of the current ministries and adaptation of the legal framework that will arise as a consequence of the initiative presented,” he said in the release.

He stated that this process should be oriented towards strengthen the quality of the education sector, having a robust governance system and adequate financing to meet the objectives set as a country.

“In light of the assertion that the component of Science and Technology will be moved to a new instance, the ADRU emphasizes the need to preserve the achievements achieved in terms of creation of capabilities for research and innovation in Higher Education Institutions,” the press release states.

The ADRU reaffirmed its commitment with the strengthening of the quality of education and sustainable development and even of the Republic Dominican.
