He Cable Car Board of Trustees reported that with the support of the central government it will implement a sustainability plan and announced that they will resume tourist activities in the Loma Isabel de Torres.

The entity indicated that before the closing of the Puerto Plata Cable Car On June 6, 2024, by instructions of the President of the Republic and the Minister of Tourism, based on safeguarding the safety of both national and foreign visitors, the Central Government has carried out a series of actions aimed at strengthening the measures security for land access to Loma Isabel de Torres.

The objective of the measure is for tourists and local visitors to enjoy a varied offer and thus keep this important tourist attraction open while the change to the funicular system is carried out.

The actions are included in exchanges with the entire value chain that operates in the Loma Isabel de Torres Natural Monument, as well as inter-institutional meetings at the central government level, guaranteeing the coordination and technical relevance of the required interventions.

The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) reported that three meetings have been held with merchants, tourist guides and artisans who operate in Loma Isabel de Torres, on June 6, 10 and 17, with the purpose of communicating first-hand, raising requirements, needs and recommendations to consider and subsequently, present the sustainability plan for the operation in the tourist area. The next meeting was planned to take place last Tuesday, the 25th of this month.

Likewise, meetings have been held with tour operators with the aim of evaluating the migration of cruise passengers’ access operation to the Isabel de Torres hill by land. Also, there has been an important rapprochement with port operators Taino Bay and Amber Covewho expressed their support for the cable car modernization project and assured that they will carry out the necessary actions with the aim of increasing the number of tourists who access it by land, to enjoy the offer that will be presented in the emblematic Loma Isabel de Torres.

The actions described generated the technical and strategic inputs necessary for the design of the “Sustainability Plan for the operation in Loma Isabel de Torres”, which has the objective of maintaining visitation and the regular development of tourist activities in the Natural Monument. Meanwhile, with the migration of the land operation, maintaining the tour operators that had their operations through land access to the Loma and integrating new tour operations.

The tourism reactivation program is a proposal to balance the conservation of the natural environment with the promotion of sustainable tourism and the cultural enrichment of the region, through local gastronomic and artisanal offerings and the incorporation of interpretive signage that guides visitors along the route, providing general information and conservation practices. The fourth axis seeks to improve the road section from Manolo Tavares Justo Avenue to El Cupey and reconstruction of the Cupey section to Loma Isabel de Torres.
