Pope Francis, who received President Luis Abinader for 30 minutes at the Vatican this Monday, discussed issues of mutual interest such as migration and the regional situation, according to the Vatican.
During the meeting with the pontiff, Abinader seemed “very pleased” with the pope, to whom he even spoke about his “spiritual advisor, Father Antonio Altamira”, while Francisco thanked him for his sympathy.
During the cordial conversations at the State Secretariat, satisfaction with the good bilateral relations and the desire to strengthen them even further was expressed.
Afterwards, the pope held a meeting with the president’s three daughters and his wife and first lady, Raquel Arbaje, who told the pontiff that they were waiting for him in their country.
“We are waiting for you, we are waiting for you,” Arbaje told the pope as he shook his hand to say goodbye, while Francis thanked him for the visit and asked the president to pray for him: “I pray for you and you for me,” he said. Abinader responded, according to images released by the Vatican.
