The President of the Republic, Luis Abinadersigned this Monday the National Pact for Road Safetyin conjunction with various government institutions, private organizations and civil society, with the aim of implementing comprehensive strategies to reduce thes traffic accidents and its tragic consequences in the country.

The pact contemplates measures such as road education in schoolsthe improvement in signaling and road conditionsand a reinforcement in the supervision of compliance with traffic rules. Likewise, it seeks to promote greater citizen awareness and effective collaboration between the sectors involved.

The director of the National Transit Institute participated in the writing and Transport Terrestrial (Intrant), Milton Morrison; the president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), Julio Virgilio Brache; the head of the Hotel and Tourism Association (Asonahores), David Llibre; the representative of Movido RD, Miguel Jiménez; the president of the National Confederation of Transport (Conatra), Antonio Marte and the president of the National Federation of Transport Dominican (Fenatrado), Ángel Ovelio Ogando Díaz.

The president said the plan will be available for other sectors to sign.

Previously, during LA Weekly with the Pressthe president also signed decree 656-24, which declares the road safety in the period 2025-2030. The plan will be coordinated by the Intrant.

Reduce mortality by 50% by 2030

The project proposes to improve inspection, as well as the reduction of mortality by 2030 and improve the interoperability of health information systems. road safety.

It also proposes the creation of a care unit for victims of traffic accidentswhich consists of psychological help for road tragedies.

Likewise, a patrol network of highways and urban roads that will be implemented as of January 1, 2025 and the inclusion of road safety education in the school curriculum. As well as the discount system on the cost of the driver’s license.

Starting in June 2025, traffic fines will be applied according to the Law 63-17, which proposes their digitalization and the implementation of a points-based driver’s license.
