The Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the alert locations to 24 on Sunday night, because the trough associated with the instability of low pressure continues to produce cloudy increases accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind.
According to the report of the National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), “as the hours go by these cloud fields will continue to enter and consequently we foresee the continuation of precipitations which could be moderate to strong in remote points, with thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind.”
Based on this report, the COE raised to 12 provinces on alert yellow: Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Barahona, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samaná, Dajabón, Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, La Altagracia and Pedernales.
15 provinces on alert green are: Santo Domingo, La Vega, San Cristóbal, La Romana, San Juan, Independencia, Montecristi, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, San José de Ocoa, Peravia, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, Santiago Rodríguez and the National District.
Maritime conditions
On the other hand, on the Atlantic coast, the Indomet It recommended that operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels remain in port, due to abnormal winds and waves of seven to nine feet near the coast, being higher offshore than inland.
Also the Indomet states that, in low-lying coastal areas of the north coast, they should be alert for possible coastal flooding.
The recommendations of the COE in bad weather are:
- Keep in touch with the Civil Defense, Armed Forces, Red Cross, National Police, Fire Departments and this Emergency Operations Center through Tel: 809-472-0909, 9.1.1, *462 of the OGTIC.
- Follow the guidelines and guidance of civil protection organizations.
- Given the occurrence of downpours, residents in high-risk areas that live near rivers, streams and ravines must be alert and take the necessary precautionary measures against possible rises and sudden floods.
- People should refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water and not use spas in the provinces under alert.
