The Spanish tourist admitted to a private hospital in Cancun woke up from an induced coma, although at the moment “he doesn’t remember anything, he doesn’t know where he is and he can’t speak.”

This was stated to EFE by Marta Parada, sister-in-law of Adrián Fernández, who was with his wife, Sofía Parada, on their honeymoon in a Hotel in Cancún (with their 7-year-old son) when he suffered indigestion in the pool and a subsequent drowning that caused cardiorespiratory arrest.

The rescuers who arrived at the scene managed to revive him and he was transferred to the nearest hospital, located an hour away from the Hotel, where he was admitted in critical condition, and later transferred to another hospital with an induced coma.

Fernández’s sister-in-law pointed out that in recent days they have been reducing the patient’s sedation, who has responded well and has woken up, although the doctors do not see it appropriate for him to be transferred to Spain at the moment, after he was visited by the honorary consul.

Regarding the hospital expenses in Cancun, which already amount to nearly 90 thousand euros (just over 1 million 638 thousand 873 pesos), including the 20 thousand assumed by the insurance, he thanked the help received from anonymous people so that the family can cope with this situation.

As reported REPORTUR.mx, the family is considering requesting a bank loan since they are depleting their savings and do not know how much longer Fernández will be admitted to Cancún, a town to which both the patient’s parents and those of his wife have moved.
