Hoteliers in the southern region of Quintana Roo have asked Governor Mara Lezama to work more closely with the new cabinet in the Secretariats of Economic Development (SEDE) and Environment (SEMA) to improve roads and connectivity, according to the president of the Association of Hotels in the central and southern region, Raúl Andrade Angulo.
“They must understand that the southern area has its own characteristics that are very different from those of the center and the north of the state. What we are asking for is a closer relationship to go hand in hand to promote the projects announced for the state capital,” said Andrade Angulo.
He also believes that there are pending issues such as the implementation of the Magical Neighborhood program, roads and having greater connectivity to achieve occupancy levels during the holiday seasons.
Although Andrade acknowledged the efforts of the former leaders, he did insist on the need for closer ties with the new leaders. “But what we need is greater closeness to address the special circumstances of the southern area,” said the Hotel leader, as reported by Noticaribe.
As reported by REPORTUR.mxAndrade Angulo previously called for the Chetumal airport to be renamed as Chetumal-Bacalar International Airport, with the two most important destinations in the area. (Cancun: Hoteliers propose that Chetumal airport be renamed.)
Hoteliers believe that adding the name Bacalar will add value to the area as it is the best-positioned destination in recent years, but the name Chetumal should be kept, as it is the airport entrance.
