The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, The reconstruction work on the streets of the historic center has begun. Puerto Plata with an investment of close to 80 million pesos.
The project involves the reconstruction of the streets, sidewalks and curbs of the urban center of the municipality, directly impacting the local residents of the city, as well as tourists, mainly cruise passengers who disembark at the tourist ports of Amber Cove and Taíno Bay.
Collado highlighted the investments and works delivered during his administration to strengthen the tourist destination and those in the pipeline, such as the rehabilitation of Sosúa beach and the remodeling of the iconic Puerto Plata cable car.
“These interventions will mark a before and after in this historic urban center. Puerto Plata‘s time has definitely come,” he said.
The road project in San Felipe was managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Areas (Ceiztur) at a total cost of RD$79,855,074.95.
The sections to be worked on correspond to Juan Escaño Avenue (Old Railway); Extension of Restauración Street (Connection of Juancho Escaño Avenue and Caamaño Street).
It also includes the streets Antera Mota, Luis Espinosa, March 30, Los Jazmines San Felipe and Aserradero Street.
In addition, work will be carried out on 27 de Febrero Avenue, El Morro and Cardenal Sancha streets.
Juan Escaño Avenue (Old Railway) will be repaired over a 751-metre stretch and 27 de Febrero over a 834-metre stretch.
Meanwhile, El Morro Street will be renovated over a 1,020-meter stretch and Cardenal Sancha 934 meters in length.
The project includes the reconstruction of 9,318 linear meters of curbs and 17,256 square meters of sidewalk, including the redesign of the tread layer of three road axes by applying a new 2” asphalt concrete layer on the road.
