Veron, La Altagracia Province.- In recent months, citizens of Verón-Punta Cana have been concerned about the increase in prostitution of women and transsexuals in different avenues, squares and establishments in this area.
Although prostitution is not prohibited by law in the Dominican Republic, the presence of those who engage in this activity in places frequented by children and adolescents causes moral damage.
Even Bávaro Digital has received several complaints that reflect that, above all, prostitutes, enter shopping malls and position themselves almost at the doors of Christian churches located in very frequented areas of Verón and Bávaro.
Several shop owners have expressed their great concern about the disrespect of these women. Added to this is the lack of surveillance by security forces, which would greatly contribute to reducing the presence of these people in places frequented by families.
The hours when women and transgender people are most seen on Barceló Avenue and in some areas of Bávaro are between 8 pm and early morning. It should be noted that there are restaurants, shopping malls, churches and residential areas on that avenue.
