The Mexican Ministry of Health has issued an alert to all medical units in the country following the recent declaration of an international emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO) related to a new outbreak of monkeypox. This measure responds to the increased risk of international spread and the emergence of a new variant of the virus.
To date, Mexico has not reported any cases of this new variant called “clade 1b.” However, the country has recorded a total of 212 probable and 49 confirmed cases of the monkey virus so far in 2024, distributed across 11 federal entities.
The Mexican Ministry of Health calls on all health sector institutions and the general public to remain alert and collaborate in the early detection and proper management of cases, with the aim of protecting public health and minimizing the risk of a national epidemic.
It is worth mentioning that Quintana Roo is in second place for the number of cases of Mpox (monkeypox) in the entire country, with a total of 7 cases registered as of the August 3 cut-off of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System; in first place is Mexico City with 29 cases.
As reported by REPORTUR.mxsince June 2022 in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has already warned travelers about the increase in monkeypox infections, which has already spread to 32 countries worldwide, and is therefore asking them to take the necessary precautions.
