Mayan Train: AMLO promises not to leave anything pending for Sheinbaum

President Andrés López Obrador (AMLO) has promised to inaugurate all the remaining sections of the Maya Train before the end of his term and not leave anything pending for President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum. He expects that they will be able to open section 7 at the end of August and sections 5 and 6 in mid-September.

“We are already moving forward and we will reach Tulum; work is being done from the Tulum airport station to Chetumal, it is section 6 and section 7 to close the circuit, the station is working and we have 2 dates. First the section to Chetumal, we are thinking of doing it at the end of August, in about a month it would be done and before September 15 the entire section will be done,” said AMLO.

The last sections have been delayed due to various issues, including court decisions, especially section 5, between Cancun and Tulum, caves and cenotes in the State of Quintana Roo.

“From Cancun to Tulum there has been more difficulty because they are building about 80 kilometers of viaduct, to make it clearer, they are second floors. In total there are 120 kilometers, but the train arrives at 80. Because of the chaste nature of the place, so as not to affect underground rivers, cenotes, and work is being carried out to protect the environment,” said AMLO.

As reported by REPORTUR.mxthe president of the Mexican Federation of Colleges of Civil Engineers, Carlos Fierros, recently stated that there have been multiple questions and accusations made by this association regarding the lack of planning for the Maya Train project and the absence of the corresponding studies, which is why from his perspective it is a project that is not only excessively expensive but also poorly done, and he hopes that this will serve as an experience for the federal government to make appropriate plans and works in the future. “We would like to see the studies, the planning work that was done, but what we see and have been able to appreciate is not something that you can say is well done. So, I think it is a very expensive experience, but it has to serve so that as a country we begin to make plans in an appropriate manner: first, put it in a general consensus, see if it is really a project that the region or the country needs, and then do all the corresponding studies, tenders and execute the work. It takes years, yes, but we Mexicans are going to save a lot of money, and the government is going to do it in a timely manner,” Fierros explained at the time.
