The top official in charge of the Maya Train, General Óscar Lozano, assured that Trips to Tulum from Playa del Carmen would begin in September of this year.

The official highlighted that since the inauguration of Section 5 North in February 2024, a total of 314,104 passengers have been transported. 26,402 passengers have purchased their tickets at the ticket office while 7,856 have purchased them directly from the official Maya Train website.

He reported that the inauguration of sections 6 and 7 of the Maya Train is still pending, which will close the routes in southeastern Mexico, with no confirmed date yet for starting operations. Section 5 north of the Maya Train runs from Cancun to Playa del Carmen along three stations in Cancun Airport, Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen. It runs 43.3 kilometers of double electrified track, 70 percent of which runs on an elevated viaduct.
