He cinema Dominican continues to advance on foreign beaches and adds a new merit to its already swelled list in one of the festivals of cinema oldest in Spain, converted into a reference for the cinema Ibero-American.

Merit comes from the hand of actor Dominican Manuel Raposowho received the Silver Colón for Best Actor for his outstanding performance in the movie “The bachata of Bionic“during the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festivalin Spain.

Directed by Yoel Moralesthe movie Not only did it compete in the Official Section for the coveted Colón de Oro, but it also captivated the public thanks to its bold and fresh approach.

A drama vibrant

Set in a Caribbean city marked by adversity, the story follows Bionicthe main character played by Raposo, a romantic young man with serious drug addiction problems who struggles to get a job and a home for his fiancée, while he is in the process of rehabilitation.

Raposo described the movie as “a sour version of Romeo and Julietfull of freshness and a dizzying rhythm”.

Let us remember that “The bachata of Bionic” also won the prize of the audience in it North American Festival, South by Southwest Film 2024 (SXSW) in Austin, USA, in addition to representing the country in the Open Doors session of the 77th Locarno Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival and the LALIFF.

At the presentation of the film in Huelva, the actor explained that the director sought to “break the barrier between reality and fiction” to offer a story vibrant and dynamic, which reflects the harsh reality of Bionicwho, driven by love, must face his addictions and seek redemption.

The next edition of this meeting with the best cinema Ibero-American will take place from November 14 to 22, 2025 to celebrate the 51st edition of the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival.
