Edwin Andrew Geronimo Mejía, alias “El Cojito” and also known as Espaillat, accused of killing his ex-partner in a Hotel in the Colonial Zone in the National District, admitted having committed the crime.
Upon being transferred to the National Police Palace, Geronimo Mejia, 42, added that he was driven to commit the act by “problems” and expressed his repentance for taking the life of Luisa Betances Fabian, 56 years old.
The confessed culprit was arrested on Canada Avenue, in the province of San José de Ocoa, while trying to flee from the authorities.
The accused reported that he arrived at the Hotel on Saturday, where he had agreed to meet with the victim, and after a discussion“anger” led him to kill her.
The women was attacked in the face with a piece of block. Hotel workers found her in a dying state in the room and immediately called a unit of the 9-1-1 Emergency System. She was transferred to the Darío Contreras hospital, where she died.
“El Cojito” said that he is businessman and is dedicated to carrying out work in a grocery store.
Diego Pesqueira, spokesman of the National Police, indicated that the capture Gerónimo Mejía’s case was handled by agents from the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The remains of Luisa Betances will be displayed in the mortuary Charles de Gaulle Avenue, in Santo Domingo Este. It will be buried in the Cristo Salvador cemetery.
