He president Luis Abinader reiterated this Tuesday that the Dominican Republic maintains one of the best democracies and stability politics between the countries of the region, for which he called on citizens to exercise their right to participate in the construction of a participatory society.
By heading the act of opening of the International Congress of Civil Societyheld at the Jaragua Hotel, the leader pointed out that everything citizen has the power to demand and participate in the public policieswhich maintains and drives a democracy.
“In a democracy authentic, the most important public office is that of citizen. Each of you has the power to demand and participate in the construction of a society better, through your stake in the design, implementation and monitoring of public policies“he pointed out.
Axles fundamental
In his speech, the leader addressed five axles fundamental strategic for an open government in matters of public spaces and democracy.

- Create an environment conducive to society civil.
- Promote the stake of the society in public affairs.
- Protect the freedom of assembly, peaceful demonstration and the defense of human rights.
- Guarantee the freedom of the press, the freedom of expression and access to information.
- Develop the civic space digital and inclusive.
The congress is organized by the Center for the Development and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations, with the support of the World Bank.
