Low-cost airline Canada Jetlines has suspended operations to restructure under Canadian creditor protection rules, and the company is coordinating refunds for passengers with pending Flights.
Canada Jetlines began operations in 2022 and ended with a fleet of four Airbus A320s. The most recent routes were from its base in Toronto to Miami and Orlando, while it operated to Las Vegas until May, according to Cirium, as reported by Travel Weekly.
Despite efforts to find funds to continue operating, the airline opted for a temporary suspension. Canada Jetlines is the second Canadian low-cost airline to have suspended Flights this year, after ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air in February and WestJet closed its low-cost airline Swoop in October last year.
As reported by REPORTUR.us, In August 2022, it was announced that the new Canadian airline had received service licenses to operate domestically and internationally, so it would fly to the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Jetlines initially operated with an Airbus A320, but by 2025 it expected to have a fleet of 15 aircraft. (A Canadian airline is born that will go to the USA, Mexico, and the Caribbean).
Transport Canada has already announced the air operating certificate for Jetlines. The new airline was authorized to fly from Toronto’s Pearson Airport to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Moncton, New Brunswick.
