The delivery of the first stage of the project is scheduled for mid-2025. Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) Las Parras, as reported by the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, during a tour of supervision of the works in the San Antonio de Guerra municipality.
With Roberto Santanadirector of the National Office of Support for Penitentiary Reform (Onaprep), Bonilla highlighted the progress in the accommodation areas with capacity for 2,400 inmates, administrative blocks, child visits, sewing workshops, and the main perimeter fence.
- “We are confident that by the middle of next year we will be delivering this work, an important step to improve the prison system of the country,” said Bonilla, who leads the project in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (PGR).
Details of the works advanced
Interventions carried out to date include:
– Key infrastructures: Educational classrooms, sewing workshops, children’s visiting areas, access streets and alternate access building.
– Security and services: Cell adaptation, electrification system and a sand trap for the wastewater treatment plant.
– Essential equipment: Construction of a main tank with its pumping system and improvements in parking and general services.
Strategic collaboration and its impact
The project is executed by Mived with support from the PGR, within the framework of the national plan to modernize he prison systemalleviate overcrowding and promote decent conditions for the rehabilitation of those deprived of liberty.
Roberto Santana stressed the importance of CCR Las Parras in the transformation of the prison model Dominican, urging the actors involved to guarantee the appropriate pace for its prompt commissioning.
The tour was attended by representatives of the Support Committee to Penitentiary Reform and mediawho confirmed the progress of this work that will mark a milestone in the prison system of the country.
