The president of Iberia, Marco Sansavini, has confirmed that the airline would be willing to expand route transfers to carry out the integration of Air Europa. During his speech at the CREO forum, organized by Cinco Días, he assured that he was “open to any indication about remedy takers.”
In this sense, although Brussels has shown some “concern” regarding “specific routes,” it is confident that the operation will move forward steadily “whether Europe happens or it doesn’t.” It is “a unique opportunity” to take a “leap and reach the level of the great European hubs.”
How are you publishing? PreferentialTo date, IAG has committed to divest 40% of Air Europa Flights in 2023. Among the candidates to absorb these itineraries are big names such as Ryanair, Volotea, Binter, Avianca, World2Fly and Iberojet, something that for Sansavini is “proof of the solidity and robustness of the package we have presented.”
However, the EU’s Competition Directorate-General is particularly concerned that integration will lead to a reduction in quality and an increase in prices, especially on certain connections with America controlled by Iberia and Air Europa, as well as on Flights domestic with the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
The Iberia manager made these statements days after meeting with the Argentine leader, Javier Milei. Given the controversy that arose, he clarified that it was “an economic event.” “It is an element of normality considering the impact we have on employment, on the creation of wealth, on the connectivity between Spain and Argentina.”
As reported REPORTUR.mx, Iberia announced this Sunday that it will be the shuttle airline for the new Airbus aircraft, as it will receive the first A321XLR on the market after the summer. This aircraft will strengthen Iberia’s long-haul fleet, and will do so in a more sustainable and innovative way by offering the possibility of operating the airline’s transoceanic routes also with a narrow body aircraft, that is, with a single aisle.
