As an example, he assured that the poverty monetary policy was reduced from 25.8% in 2019 to 23% in 2023, “despite the pandemic and the effects of the war”, and in the first half of 2024 it fell to 18.9%.
This means a decrease from 6.9 percentage points.

He said that the Dominican Republic has made considerable progress in the SDGs of the food security, energy sustainability, citizen security and climate action, “to name a few examples.”
“Despite being an island with limited arable land resources, we have gone from 88.5% of food self-sufficiency in 2019 to 90.6% in 2023. We have largely achieved self-sufficiency in this sector,” he said.
Abinader also claimed improvements in terms of citizen security. He indicated that in 2022 the rate of homicides In our country it was 13.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, in 2023 it dropped to 11.5 and, so far in 2024, it stands at 9.9.
“This index is below the average of Latin America and the Caribbean, which according to UN data is 17.2,” he said.
Regarding the generation, transmission and distribution of affordable and clean energy, he said that construction has begun on projects to provide 2,000 new megawatts of thermal generation, of which 400 have already been installed.
“By the end of 2027, for the first time, we will have a surplus generation above 15%, which will ensure greater stability, sustainability and better prices for the energy supply“, he predicted.
