Never before have the main Dominican banks jointly distinguished a minister of the Dominican government and the first was the one responsible for Tourism.

In this regard, the three main commercial banks in the Dominican Republic recognized the outstanding work carried out by David Collado as Minister of Tourism for achieving extraordinary records in the sector.

In the framework of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), the banks Popular, BHD and Bookings They recognized the work of Minister Collado for his dedication and commitment to the tourism sector, which contributes more than 15% of the Gross Domestic Product to the economy.

“For his dedication and commitment in his management of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic,” says the plaque of recognition presented to the official by representatives of the bank.

Minister Collado expressed his gratitude for the award and reiterated his commitment to continue promoting the sustained development of tourism during his administration.

“I accept this recognition with humility and extend it to the members of the Tourism Cabinet, because the achievements and success belong to everyone,” he said.

He said that in addition to his work, each record achieved, such as the arrival of 10 million visitors, is the fruit of the joint effort of the public and private sectors.

Collado highlighted the contribution of banks to the development of tourism, as they have specialized portfolios for the sector.

He said that part of the industry’s development is due to the financing of the tourism industry by national banks.

The Dominican Republic has just had its best year in the history of tourism in 2023 with the arrival of 10,306 thousand visitors and it is expected that by the end of this year 11,500 thousand visitors will arrive in the country.

Dominican banks, led by Banco Popular, Banco de Reservas and BHD, began the recovery in 2020 with strong support by financing the sector and, above all, supporting and sponsoring the most important fairs in the world of tourism.
