80 percent of the streets on the island of Holbox are flooded due to the heavy rains of recent days, making it very difficult to navigate them now.

Manuel Escamilla, mayor of the island, commented that, unlike other communities in the municipality, Holbox is affected by the rains, which have not yet caused damage to the families’ assets. However, he acknowledged that, during the past weekend, tourism was not present on the island due to the weather situation.

He commented that among the most affected roads are Kuka, Esmedregal, and Tiburón Ballena avenues, among others, through which not even golf carts could access, which is the main means of public transportation in Holbox.

Escamilla pointed out that it will not be until the rainfall stops that drainage work will begin. To do this, public services personnel will use Vactor-type machinery with suction systems, which has already been requested from the state government.

On the other hand, the fishing union of Chiquilá and Holbox is going through difficulties as a result of the closure of ports decreed by the state government, due to the heavy rains that have occurred in recent days in the entity. It is estimated that more than 500 fishermen from both populations have been affected.

As reported REPORTUR.mxIn November, faced with the torrential downpours, residents of the island of Holbox, on their own, drained the flooded streets so that locals and tourists could have free movement. (Holbox: residents drain the streets due to torrential rains).
