Tired of living in fear, Haitians eagerly await the arrival in the country of the multinational security support force, led by Kenyan police and destined to restore a climate of peace that puts an end to the reign of terror of the powerful armed gangs. in almost all of Port-au-Prince and other points.
Ronald Cénat, 39, is a motorcycle driver and hopes that this mission will help “reestablish” peace and order in the country, immersed in a spiral of violence.
“In Haiti our police officers are no longer respected. “We want the force to arrive to help us restore security and peace,” he told EFE, assuring that the force will undoubtedly come to help, but criticized that Haitian politicians are incapable of leading the country.
And he added: “We are looking for a solution to the situation in the country so that order reigns. The situation continues to deteriorate. People cannot live comfortably. The problem of insecurity and misery wreaks havoc. That is why we ask the force to intervene.”
For her part, Roseline Sanon, 50, maintained that she would not have wanted the intervention of a foreign force, considering that Haiti is a free country.
“But it is because of our politicians and our leaders that we are forced to accept the intervention of a force,” he lamented, saying that the country has already seen the intervention of several foreign forces with little success.
“We are waiting for the next one. We don’t know what it will bring,” she added while recalling that Haiti has an armed and police force.
“We are trapped in a vicious circle”
“The reason is that we should not accept that a force intervenes in our country. But since we have insecurity problems, we are trapped in a vicious circle: we cannot move, and if force intervenes I would hope that it would restore peace and security,” he reflected.
Sanon also said he opposed the multinational security force “coming and destroying.”
“What we expect from the foreign force is that it comes to restore peace. We need peace and security,” he insisted.
In his opinion, the delay in the arrival of the force is due to the politicians: “They are the reason for the delay. “It is the politicians and the leaders who are putting us in this situation,” he said.
The multinational security force that will confront the gangs in Haiti will arrive in the country in about three weeks, according to statements issued on Friday by Kenyan President Willian Ruto, once the logistical objectives are achieved.
In early May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas, Fred Mitchell, whose country will also send troops to Haiti, announced that the deployment of the multinational mission to restore security would begin this Sunday.
Authorities condemn triple murder in Haiti
On the other hand, the Presidential Transition Council condemned the repeated acts of armed bandits against the population in several regions of the country, especially in the metropolitan area of the capital.
The Council expressed its “total condemnation” after the murder of three missionaries, a Haitian and an American couple, committed last Thursday in Lizon, in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, north of Port-au-Prince.
The spouses Devy and Nathalie Lloyd and Jude Montis were killed by one of the Haitian armed gangs. Nathalie Lloyd was the daughter of US Congressman Ben Baker.
The Haitian authorities expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of the United States.
“Shortly after the perpetration of this repugnant, cowardly and villainous triple crime, the Haitian National Police was instructed to initiate an investigation in order to identify the criminals, arrest them and bring them to justice so that they may be punished in accordance with the law. ”said the official note.
Last year alone, violence caused 8,000 victims in Haiti, where gangs control much of Port-au-Prince and other areas of the country.
