During his visit to Cap Haitien, the prime minister of Haiti, Garry Conille, expressed his desire to ask USA that I share with him government Haitian information on the file involving sanctions against the former president Michel Martelly.
The official considered that it is important that the institutions responsible in Haiti are aware of the situation in order to inform the population in a clear and detailed manner.

He stressed that the responsibility of the State, through the Attorney general is to ask countries that are friends of Haiti about sharing with him the documents and the information that allow a better understanding of the case.

In one press conference in Cap Haitien during his first visit outside the capital of that country, Conille also guaranteed the celebration of elections and the fight against the gangs.

Conille, accompanied by members of the government and the diplomatic corps, in particular, representatives and ambassadors of the USACanada, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Switzerland, the United Nations, the European Union, among others, presented the Government Roadmap during a working session within the framework of their official mission in the North of the country.
According to Conille, the governmentwith the support of the international partners of Haiti, will do everything possible to successfully implement the transition agenda, especially the major projects that are: the resolution of the humanitarian crisis and securitythe strengthening of Justice and the restoration of the securitythe recovery of the economy, the organization of the constitutional reform and the elections generals in the country.
He prime minister Haitian visited several institutions and infrastructure of the country’s second city, in particular, the Justiniano University Hospital and the José Martà Power Plant. He also met with officials from the National Airport Authority (AAN) and the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC) to decide on the development of the Northern Region in terms of migration.
Conille also met with personalities of the region and discuss the current socio-crisissecurity and the strategy that the government must be implemented to prevent any impact of insecurity in the northern region of the country.
Sanctions against Martelly
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of USA announced last Tuesday sanctions against former Haitian President Michel Joseph Martelly (2011-2016) for his complicity in global drug trafficking.
Through a statement, the agency belonging to the Treasury Department accused Martelly of abusing his influence to facilitate drug trafficking, with the passage of cocaine into USAof participating in the laundering of money from this illicit business and of supporting several gangs.
“The existence of widespread activity of gangs and human rights abuses in Haiti create a permissive environment for drug trafficking activities, and the country is a transit point for illicit drugs entering the country. USA“, the note says.
As a result of the sanctions, the institutions U.S. financial institutions are prohibited from lending or providing credit to Martelly.
In addition, all foreign exchange transactions that are subject to the jurisdiction of USA and in which Martelly has any interest and US citizens are prohibited from investing in the former president’s stock or debt instruments.
