The long-awaited inauguration of the second runway at Guadalajara International Airport took place, which, according to Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), “reflects our commitment to operational efficiency and the growth and modernization of our airport infrastructure.”

During the event, GAP President Laura Díez expressed her gratitude to the federal, state and municipal authorities, whose unconditional support was essential for the realization of this great project. “Their collaboration and shared vision have been fundamental to carry out this monumental work, whose construction began in May 2021 and is now a reality,” she said.

The second runway is 3,538 meters long and 45 meters wide. It is a segregated operation, which means that this airport will have one runway for arrivals and another for departures, which will allow for greater fluidity in air traffic and open up new connectivity opportunities, increasing operational capacity by 50% to 70% in the long term, GAP said.

“Guadalajara will simply have the best airport in Mexico, and Vallarta will have an airport with double the capacity it has now this year, so what GAP has done is truly worthy of recognition; Guadalajara is already the main cargo hub in the country and with this it will not only be the third airport in passengers, but it will also be the airport with the highest quality and with this it will increase its connectivity capacity with other destinations in the world,” said the governor of the state of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro.

In addition, the mixed-use building was inaugurated, which includes a 180-room Hotel with the Hilton Garden Inn brand, two office buildings and a two-level shopping plaza, which connects to the parking lot through a pedestrian bridge and an exterior walkway, as reported by REPORTUR.mx(Guadalajara Airport to open second runway and new terminal).

The investment in the terminal building includes the expansion and rehabilitation of the parking lot, which will increase the capacity to 4,000 spaces, projecting a total future capacity of more than 10,000, thus offering a comfortable and safe space to users.

The event was also attended by Raúl Revuelta, CEO of the airport group, Pablo Lemus, governor-elect, and General Miguel Enrique Vallín, director of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC).
