This last week of the electoral campaign, facing the presidential and congressional elections next Sunday, fake news has entered the debate to confuse and move the vote in favor or against certain proposals.
Since yesterday, WhatsApp groups have received an audio, generated by artificial intelligence, where the voice of President Luis Abinader is simulated in probable intentions to let in a large number of undocumented Haitians.
In this regard, the deputy campaign coordinator of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Faride Raful, attributed the audio to “a dirty and desperate offensive by the opposition, now with artificial intelligence.”
Yesterday, during his meeting with the press, President Luís Abinader warned that in the remainder of the campaign, more fake news will continue to appear due to the desperation of electoral results that could be adverse to the opposition, whom he called not to lose dignity and the shame along with his defeat in the current competition.
President Abinader responded in this way to the version disseminated by important leaders of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party who have assumed the speech in defense of the motoconchistas, after accusing the president of having called them a “plague” confusing the word “plates.” , at a time when President Abinader explained the measures taken by his government to regulate the sector.
“Desperation makes the opposition resort to lies. “If the liar cannot convince you, he tries to confuse you,” the president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), José Ignacio Paliza, published on his social networks to refer to the confusion.
Important FP leaders such as Rubén Maldonado have used their social media accounts to accuse President Abinader of being elitist and denigrating the motoconchistas.
Another fake news that spread widely on social networks, during the last rainy weekend, was a photo that was intended to communicate an alleged breakdown at the overpass at the intersections of 27 de Febrero and Tiradentes avenues.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) clarified that the photo posted on social networks of César Fernández, an important FP leader, corresponded to December 8, 2023.
The information was also circulated that a person had died as a result of a shootout between Perreme factions, and an image of a vehicle with multiple shots was even circulated, which did not correspond to the event.
According to the PRM, the shooting had nothing to do with their political activity, because it occurred between gangs completely isolated from their meeting.
