The Environmental Quality Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MMARN) to identify the causes associated with a fish mortality reported by citizens in the Puerto Caballo Lagoon in Puerto Plata.

The director of Environmental Quality, Silmer González Ruiz, thanked the people and the local media of Puerto Plata who reported through social networks about the situation in said lagoon, located in the Novillero community, Luperón, in Puerto Plata.

“Our technicians will proceed to analyze the water and fish samples, as well as identify human activities in the perimeter, with the aim of identifying the causes and being able to take the appropriate measures,” said González Ruiz.

Environmental Quality works in coordination with the provincial Environment staff and agents of the National Environmental Protection Service (Senpa).

With climate change, episodes of fish mortality due to high temperatures are being experienced worldwide. Last year, some cases were recorded in the country and even extreme episodes in Europe and Australia.
