The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Hector Porcella, He acknowledged that the aviation industry in the Dominican Republic faces various challenges.
Among them, he highlighted the high tax rate applied to the aeronautical sector. However, with the promulgation of Law 53-23, which encourages aviation, it is hoped that competitiveness conditions will improve.
Furthermore, the high cost of fuel, influenced by imported inputs, has been a recurring topic of debate and complaints by airline operators for several decades.
“This is a problem that has persisted for a long time and, as it is a tax issue, it has been difficult for any government to find a solution,” emphasized Porcella, recently appointed president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).
He said that despite the challenges, the industry has experienced gradual development over time, especially in recent years, according to elDinero.
