the movie Perez Rodriguezdirected by the filmmaker Humberto Tavarezwas recently released in movie theaters across the country. This film production portrays family life dominican.

A stellar cast, led by figures such as Cuquin VictoriaLuis José Germán, Stephany Liriano, Lizbeth SantosJoshua Wagner and Xiomara Rodríguez, take on the leading roles in the film, produced by Lantica Studios.

The actress Lizbeth Santos revealed details about his participation in Perez Rodriguezin which he plays “Christina“.

You have participated in other films, what did it mean to you to take on your role in this one?

Christina She is a woman of great character, strong, successful, which for many men could be intimidating. Having focused on being a professional successful, perhaps your personal and love life took a backseat.

It is the typical example of: “Womenprepare for life, so that you don’t need anyone. Study and be the best at what you are going to do…” When a woman finally prepares, society feels that it is too late to form a family and that perhaps the opportunity passed away.

a society that does not take into account what a woman’s desires, dreams and goals are, because it assumes that everyone, without exception, wants to get married and have children, which is not always the case.

And when a woman doesn’t follow that path, society tends to see her life like a “failure” or a sign that something is missing.

When interpreting Christina I could feel all those pressures that many women face when they reach a mature age without having married or had children. It is unnecessary and painful pressure.

In the plane professionalHow does it impact your career?

I see it as a great asset because, unlike the roles I have played before, Christina She is not a sex symbol nor a mother who dedicates herself to the home, she is a cold, distant woman, focused on herself, completely different to all the characters I have taken on.

Therefore, this role is a chance for go out of the prototype with which I am more accustomed and offer an acting work different from what the public has already seen in me.

What can you comment about the psychology of the character?

Christina lives under the stigma of “la jamona”, something inexplicable for his family and those around her, because they do not understand why, being a beautiful, intelligent and successful woman, she has not formed a family.

This, on an emotional level, can be very hurtfulbecause the fact of not forming a family It doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman wanted it.

There are many reasons why this has not happened: perhaps peace and self-love are more important than having a partner; perhaps personal development and growth are a priority; or perhaps the woman prefers family roots and comfort it offers.

“There are even women who compare their partners to an ‘exemplary’ father and feel that no one else could match him. All of this generates frustration, confusion and pain, especially when contrasted with social pressures about what a woman should be.”Lizbeth SantosActress

What was the main motivation for accepting the proposal: being on the screen or the script?

Definitely, the script. Since I read about the nuances and depth of ChristinaI fell in love with the character. The context of being her attracted me a lot.

I wanted to do it as a dedication to all my single friends who have decided not to be mothers by choice, to all those who have decided to be “different women” according to what is established by society. I loved it!

Why should we go see it?

Because it is a reflection of the typical family dominicanseen through the lens of patriarchy, which, although trying to do good, can be very harmful.

The film shows the secrets, the weaknesses, the double standards, the excessive care of appearances and the need to show an image of family perfectalthough in private everything is dysfunctional.

Through a somewhat satirical, intelligent and sarcastic approach, our family idiosyncrasies are exposed. At the end of the film each viewer will see something of their own family dynamic reflected. We are not so different, whatever our last name is: Ramírez, Batista, Santos, Tavárez, or even Vicini… we all have something of “Perez Rodriguez“.
