Cannes, France.- The General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE) of the Dominican Republic and the Center National du Cinéma et de l’image Animée (CNC) of France have formalized a historic collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening the film industry of both countries.
The agreement, signed in the context of the Cannes Film Festival, France, by the general director of the DGCINE, Marianna Vargas Gurilieva, and her counterpart, the president of the CNC, Dominique Bouttonat, establishes a comprehensive cooperation framework that covers various key areas of Movie industry.
Under this important inter-institutional pact, an exchange of good practices in cinematographic matters will be carried out and, equally, mutual support in public regulation, as well as the distribution and implementation of specialized training programs.
In addition, co-production spaces between France and the Dominican Republic will be promoted, with the aim of promoting collaboration between filmmakers from both countries. This will include the dissemination of French works in the Dominican Republic and of Dominican productions in French territory, thus promoting cultural exchange and cinematographic diversity.
Likewise, as part of the agreement, initiatives will be carried out aimed at the conservation, cataloguing, restoration and digitization of the valuable national film heritage of the Dominican Republic, under the management of the Dominican Cinematheque, a department of this DGCINE.
The Dominican Republic, through its General Directorate of Cinema, expresses its deep gratitude to the French Embassy in the country for its continuous support and commitment to strengthening the ties of cooperation between both nations.
It should be noted that the DGCINE and the French Embassy in the DR formalized an agreement in 2023, which since then seeks to assume a joint commitment to the development and growth of the local film sector, covering various training, co-production, film management and institutional cooperation initiatives. . The signature with the CNC is one of the actions contemplated by these institutions.
