A little over a week after Hurricane Beryl hit the coast of Quintana Roo, causing severe damage in Cozumel, hoteliers in the city center continue to experience problems with the supply of electricity and drinking water.
This was denounced by the president of the Association of Hotels of the Center, Franco González, who commented that this situation has occurred in several of the lodging centers that make up this association, made up of 24 establishments located in the center of the city.
Hotels have suffered power outages, with prolonged power cuts, blackouts or overloads, damaging equipment and also affecting the stay of tourists. González regretted that these situations greatly affect the stay of vacationers, whose low influx has decreased on the island, particularly in the hotels in the center, but not so much in the large chain hotels found in the north and south.
Added to this is the lack of water in some hotels, which also causes a significant problem. To alleviate the situation, small hotels try to obtain drinking water for basic services, using tanker trucks (pipes) and other options that represent an extra expense.
González expressed his hope that public services such as electricity and water will return to normal as soon as possible, and that occupancy will remain stable, as the peak summer holiday season is beginning, when they expect a significant improvement in the occupancy rates of their hotels.
As reported by REPORTUR.mxLast year, Cozumel hoteliers complained about the problems that were occurring there and that affected tourism. Among these, the loud noise from the establishments, especially at night, in addition to the bad smells caused by the overflow of sewage in the first quadrant. (Cozumel: tourists without sleep because of noise and bad smells).
