Copa has activated 12 auxiliary destinations for passengers affected by the suspension of Flights between Panama and Venezuela. Ten of these destinations are in Colombia and the other two are in Aruba and Curacao, according to Vicky Herrera, president of the Venezuelan Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Avavit).
Herrera also referred to the fares that have skyrocketed by up to 300% to Colombia, indicating that “if you break down the price of the ticket you will find the fare, but there are a number of costs that are related to taxes and operating costs,” he explained to Unión Radio, as reported by Finanzas digital.
He also said that prices are raised due to demand. “We had 95 Flights that are no longer available at the moment and that passenger is transferred to another destination, increasing demand significantly. This also causes rates to change (…) if there is not enough demand at the beginning, you will get the cheapest rates, if there is a lot of demand, you will get the most expensive rates,” he said.
As reported by REPORTUR.cothe crisis in Venezuela has caused airfare prices to skyrocket by 300%, as it is becoming increasingly difficult, and much more expensive, to find a Flight out of the country in the face of the electoral controversy after which the government of Nicolás Maduro banned Flights to several countries in the region. (Venezuela: fares to leave the country soar by 300%).
The Chavista leader cancelled Flights to some countries that questioned his self-proclaimed electoral victory, including from Panama, the center of Copa’s operations, and the Dominican Republic, as well as Peru, where Latam connected Lima with Caracas.
