As part of the process to proclaim the reform to the Magna Cartahe president and the vice president of the National AssemblyRicardo de los Santos and Alfredo Pachecorespectively, signed this Friday the text of the new Constitution proposed by President Luis Abinader.
The signed document is the proposal approved in two readings by the National Assembly which, as its main objective, seeks to reform the Constitution in aspects such as the unification of elections, the reduction of deputies, a new way to choose the attorney and a clause that prevents a third presidential term.
The process of reform constitutional, which began on August 19, has already exhausted most of the steps in Congress and, with the signing of the text, all that remains is for the National Assembly gather to proclaim the new Magna Carta.
De los Santos, who presides over the Assembly, said that there is still no stipulated date for the proclamationbecause first he wants to send the new text to all legislators and sectors linked to the reform.
About the points of the Constitutionhe senator of the Sánchez RamÃrez province pointed out that the new Magna Carta was strengthened “so that no leader has the intention of perpetuating himself in power.”
In addition, he highlighted the new article that imposes a new way of choosing the attorney of the Republic saying that, from the new Constitutionthe position “will not be given to any companion.”
According to the reform constitutional, the president will nominate a candidate for the position of attorney and the National Council of the Judiciary (CNM) must evaluate him and decide whether to give him the position. With the current method, the president has the power to directly appoint the official.
Alfredo Pacheco also signs Constitution
He president of the Chamber of Deputies and vice president of the National Assembly, Alfredo Pachecoalso signed the new Constitution valuing the stone article that prevents a third period presidential.
“This will help consolidate the Constitution so that it is not modified by anyone, take this straw from me,” said Pacheco after signing the document of the Magna Carta.
