Cancun has been ranked as the fifth most popular global summer destination, according to a report from the Mastercard Economics Institute. This analysis, which is based on Flight reservations from June to August, places Cancun among the preferred destinations for international travelers.
The report highlights that Cancun, along with other beach destinations such as Bali, Greece and Aruba, remains a popular choice due to its climate and tourist attractions. Additionally, the Caribbean is also showing an increase in visits, with Aruba and the Dominican Republic standing out among the top destinations for Americans.
The top destinations are: 1. Munich, Germany: The city leads the list, boosted by hosting the opening match of the Euro Cup; 2. Tokyo, Japan: The weak yen and the absence of Travel restrictions have favored a significant increase in tourism; 3. Tirana, Albania: It is one of the most affordable cities in Eastern Europe, with easy access to the beach in a few hours by car; 4. Nice, France: With its attractive coastline and French charm, Nice comes in fourth place; 5. Cancun, Mexico: recognized for its beaches and as an ideal summer destination. Other notable destinations include Bali (Indonesia), Bangkok (Thailand), Kerkyra and Corfu Island (Greece), and Aruba.
The Mastercard Economics Institute also points out a change in traveler preferences. The average vacation duration has increased from 4.5 days in 2020 to 5.5 days in 2024. In Latin America, this time increased from 6.5 to 6.9 days.
Factors such as accessibility and climate have contributed to this increase. Additionally, travelers now prioritize experiences over material goods, accounting for 12% of tourism sales, a five-year high.
In the first quarter of 2024, an all-time high of 15.9 million Americans were recorded traveling abroad, reflecting a significant recovery in global tourism.
As reported REPORTUR.mxSince the creation of Cancun in the 1970s, Mexico’s main tourist destination has experienced several stages of luxury and glamor that are framed by the visits of Arab princes, magnates from around the world, international artists and top models that leave trace of his passage through the Mexican Caribbean.
