The measures implemented by the administration of the Cancun international airport to prevent tourists from using pirate transport and Uber are causing problems, which have even led to clashes with security guards because they are forced to leave through only one place.
In response to constant complaints and clashes between transporters outside the airport, especially in Terminal 3 for international Flights, the airport administration together with the security team implemented a series of measures that came into effect in recent weeks.
They range from placing notices in common areas, closing some exits to the parking lot and the main road, and warnings from the security elements themselves so that tourists only use the transportation offered within the terminal because it is safer.
The measures adopted by the Asur administration are independent of the traffic operations that the National Guard and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation maintain randomly to review federal zone permits.
From the moment tourists leave Terminal 3, they are guided by a conveyor belt to the area where there are dozens of “jaladores” who are in charge of offering the service to tourists and leading them to the vehicles that offer the taxi service, with federal zone permits.
According to the data collected, the problems have occurred especially with tourists who Travel frequently and who know the regular exits to the parking lots and main entrances to the terminal, where they board vehicles from platforms such as Uber and irregular taxis that charge lower rates.
The measure also affects passengers waiting for relatives or for the transportation service of the hotels themselves, because they cannot leave normally to that area. The same situation occurs in terminals 2 and 4, for domestic Flights, where several exits were closed.
As reported REPORTUR.mxÁgueda Esperilla, representative of Uber drivers, has denounced that the fights at the Cancun International Airport are between pirate transporters, and that the platform’s drivers have been victims of aggression.
