Taxi drivers who are part of the union “Andrés Quintana Roo” announced that they will join federal transporters to demonstrate this Friday in Cancún, against the Uber platform, because the government did not comply with the agreements they made the previous week. However, they promise that they will not blockade.
Apparently, during the previous march, Francisco Alejandro Carrillo Flores, Social and Interinstitutional Undersecretary in the Northern Zone, made a commitment to arrange a meeting with the Secretary of Government, but so far this has not taken place, as stated by Oscar Solís, the representative of the general secretary of the union, as reported by Noticaribe.
For its part, the caravan of the United Front of Drivers aims to express their dissatisfaction with the illegal operation of the Uber platform in the city, and will also request the dismissal of the director of the Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo), Rodrigo Alcázar.
“People are angry and are asking for Rodrigo Alcázar to be removed as director of Imoveqroo because he allows motorcycle taxis to operate without a license and private vehicles that do not pay any taxes to operate,” said Solís.
He added that Uber operators are “working as they please” and are arriving from other states, operating without registration in Imoveqroo, while taxi drivers comply with everything required by law. “Today we don’t know how many vehicles Uber has, that’s why Cancun is the way it is,” he concluded.
As reported by REPORTUR.mxÁgueda Esperilla Soto, representative of Uber drivers in Cancún, recently pointed out that the conditions that the state government has put forward in its attempts to regulate the platform are absurd, such as special licenses.
