The transportation platform Uber has notified its driver partners and users that, following a favorable court ruling, they will finally be able to operate at Cancun International Airport. This news comes after several months of tension and violence, where Uber operators were victims of attacks by local taxi drivers.

In a statement issued by the company, Uber said that a judge granted them a definitive suspension that allows them to offer and request transportation services in the vicinity of the airport terminal, without the need for additional concessions or permits.

“At Uber we reject any type of violence and promote accessible mobility for all. We want to remind you that with Uber you can make Trips from the airport, since the application is the only one that has a definitive suspension granted by a judge,” the company said.

Users of the platform have begun to report that, since Thursday, August 15, it is now possible to request the service at the airport, even highlighting that the rates offered are considerably lower compared to those of conventional taxis.

To protect its driver partners from potential confrontations with authorities or taxi drivers, Uber has distributed a detailed guide on how to proceed in the event that they are asked for proof or an attempt is made to impose a fine. The company has emphasized that drivers are not required to show any type of authorization, and that the judicial suspension protects their right to operate in the area.

Uber drivers have been constantly attacked in the vicinity of the airport terminal. The latest was this week when an operator of the platform reported that he was attacked, first by a taxi driver, when picking up two foreign tourists at the Rosa Negra restaurant in the Hotel zone of Cancun, and then by a member of the tourist police who went to the scene to deal with the incident, as reported by REPORTUR.mx (Cancun: another attack on an Uber driver with a passenger on board).
