Hurricane Beryl threatens to make landfall twice in Mexico as a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, once in Quintana Roo and once in Veracruz, according to the general coordinator of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Alejandra Méndez.
Méndez expects the hurricane to make landfall on Thursday night or early Friday morning on the Yucatán Peninsula and then reach Veracruz and Tamaulipas at level 1, according to El País.
On Monday, the meteorological phenomenon was located 2,250 kilometers east of Quintana Roo in category 4, with sustained winds of more than 220 kilometers per hour, but it is expected to lose strength when it reaches Mexico.
Hurricane Beryl hit Carriacou, a small island in Grenada, on Monday as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of up to 240 kilometres per hour. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has continued to issue an “extremely dangerous” warning.
