Civil Protection authorities reported that an induced trough is affecting a large part of the Yucatan Peninsula, with large cloud cores, rain and showers accompanied by electrical activity, and they have asked drivers to take extreme precautions. These conditions are expected to continue through next weekend.
The Government of Benito Juárez has taken preventive measures to deal with the rains in Cancún, with the aim of protecting residents and tourists, and keeping tourist areas and streets safe and passable. The Municipal President, Ana Paty Peralta, led the deployment of 15 brigades with more than 200 elements to clean grates and sewers, preventing flooding. In addition, the Traffic Department carries out constant patrols to solve problems such as traffic lights turned off and stranded vehicles, while the Fire Department supports with six brigades, ensuring the safety of citizens and tourists in Cancún.
According to the forecast for September 3, from the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the National Meteorological Service, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in several areas of Quintana Roo, accompanied by electrical discharges, possible hail and gusts of wind up to 50 km/h. The affected municipalities include: José MarÃa Morelos, Othón P. Blanco, Bacalar, Lázaro Cárdenas, Isla Mujeres, Benito Juárez, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Tulum and Solidaridad. In addition, waves of 1 to 2 meters and possible waterspouts are expected. The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Quintana Roo has also noted the presence of three low pressure zones in the Atlantic, associated with tropical waves, which currently have a low probability of cyclonic development, but are moving west-northwest towards the coasts of the State, remaining under permanent monitoring.
