The Dominican Republic The tender for the implementation of a biometric passport book will be completed before the end of the year, said the director general of Passports, Lorenzo Ramirez.
The project, which opened a bidding process under the exceptional modality on June 12, is a promise that dates back to 2014.
Ramírez explained that the tender was opened with eight observers, a commission made up of representatives of civil society who will observe the entire process and support transparency. Currently, some 25 institutions are participating in the call for tenders and it is expected that the tender will be awarded this year.
“This project is paid for by passbooks. I issue a passbook and pay the server. They have to put up their own funds, meaning that the State is not investing in the first instance. Perhaps when we sign contracts, we will establish the issue of 20% in advance until implementation,” said Ramírez.
He stressed that, so far, the percentage to be paid in advance has not been stipulated until the contract is negotiated and awarded, according to Diario Libre.
“We expect the project to take approximately one or one and a half years to fully implement,” concluded the DGP director.
