The Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) hopes that within the tax reform structure, which the Government could present, the tax regulation that would be applied to short-term rentals through digital platforms such as Airbnb.
This was indicated by the president of Asonahores, David Llibre, who recalled that the regularization of Airbnbs involves regulating the fiscal part, as well as the rules and processes for the safety of visitors. “We hope that the fiscal part will be considered within the reform structure,” he said.
Regarding the area of regulating security aspects for visitors who use this type of accommodation, the tourist representative said that they have been working together with the Ministry of Tourism and given his observations on how this can be addressed, always seeking the sustainability of the sector and the safety of tourists, according to hoy.com.
It is recalled that a month ago the Minister of Tourism, David Colladosaid that the tax regulation that would apply to short-rent digital lodging platforms would be specified within the tax reform and indicated that there is already a pre-signed agreement regarding regulation from the tourism sector.
When speaking about the tax reform in general, the president of Asonahores reiterated that what is proposed must be a project that provides more competitiveness to the country, not only for tourism, but for all productive sectors.
He specified that what they want is that if it touches the tourism sector, it is to increase competitiveness with respect to the countries in the region so that investment continues to flow and there are more rooms.
