The director of the Dominican Port Authority(Apordom), Jean Luis Rodriguezmade a tour to supervise the state of some of the tourist and fishing docks, after the passage of the Hurricane Beryl.
During the operation, the docks inspected were Sabana Grande de Palenque, in the municipality of San Cristobal; inaugurated in January of this year, and the one in Boca de Yuma, province The Altagracia.
Rodríguez assured the inhabitants of the districts, especially the fishermen, that the damage caused by the meteorological event will be regularized as soon as possible, both in terms of repair and construction, with due process of law.
“Since we saw the situation in the country, we began to take appropriate measures together with the entire team, and then to review everything. We had damage to the docks in Azua, Palenque and Boca de Yuma. The structure here in Palenque is not that bad due to the high waves, we will resolve all the damage caused by Beryl.”, he claimed.
The head of Apordom assured that the entity will provide all necessary support to men and women who have the infrastructure to make a living from fishing.
On his side, Juan Miguel de los SantosDirector of Engineering, stated that “Some infrastructure near the dock was damaged because the pressure and continuous height of the strong waves brought elements dragged by the sea to the coast, but the structure of the dock, such as piles and beams, resisted the impact of elements, affecting only 10% of them.”
Rodríguez met with the provincial governor of San Cristóbal, Pura Casilla, the mayor of Palenque, Miguel Valera, and other authorities from the affected areas, with whom he coordinated the work that, from Apordom, will reach all the citizens of those places.
Likewise, by order of the executive director of Apordom, a team chaired by the deputy director Alan Checo, He moved to the Boca de Yuma dock, La Altagracia, with the aim of checking the effects that the atmospheric phenomenon left on the site.
“In Boca de Yuma we found that the dock came out of the wooden structure located above the structure of the work. Also, the strong waves damaged the breakwater and a sinkhole damaged the amphitheater,” he said.
Weather conditions are expected to improve in the Dominican Republic after the rains caused by Hurricane Beryl in the south and southwest of the country forced the displacement of people, as well as preventive evacuations, closure of avenues, among others, in various places.
