The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, proposed this Wednesday to reduce the number of deputies who preside over the country’s lower house, taking into account that there are more than 200.

“If we reduce enrollment for the future, the country will have a break, because there are too many of us, there are almost 200 deputies,” he said.

When approached by the press, Pacheco maintained that the decisions to be made from now on, by the majority of the PRM in Congress, must be agreed upon with the opposition.

“Big decisions are going to be in the hands of the PRM that, even with the immense majority that we are going to have in both chambers, I think we will have to try to reach a consensus with the opposition and always take it into account as well.”

Alfredo Pacheco urged all members of the party to accept the recent victory with humility, while asking for respect from the political class.

“My call is to the leadership of the PRM so that we all assume this triumph with humility. President Luis Abinader himself has said that he will not hold big celebrations, of course one feels good, one can celebrate, but it must be done in moderation and with respect for the political class of the Dominican Republic, because thanks to this political class of all the parties we have the country we have today,” said Pacheco.
