The president of the Association of Tourism Hotels of the Argentine Republic (AHT), Gabriela Ferrucci, pointed out that “we are noticing a strong impact of the national economic recession on our activity. The economy as a whole falls 10%, according to the latest available data, while our decline is even greater: occupancy has fallen by an average of 15% year-on-year.

The data reflects the moment that tourist activity is going through with the decrease in regional tourism due to an unfavorable exchange rate. Furthermore, the purchasing power of international tourists, such as Chileans and Brazilians, has fallen by 30% between December and May, significantly affecting tourism in Argentina.

¨Our activity is not exempt from what happens in other productive activities in the country. The greatest impact began to be felt from April of this year (past Easter), with a more pronounced decline than estimated,” the president explained. And he added that “the average occupancy rate fell 15 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023.” The drop in demand appears sustained, according to the data collected by the entity among its affiliates throughout the country.

Likewise, national tourism is also experiencing a decline due to the general deterioration in purchasing capacity. The same thing happens with both corporate tourism and event activity, which is declining; Trips, meetings and conventions are being rescheduled.
