He ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Sang Ryul Lee hosted a reception to commemorate “Korea National Foundation Day during a reception that included a concert from Daegeum and Janggu; in addition to exhibition of crafts of hanji.
The ceremony began with the notes of the national anthems of the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Korea.
Sang Ryul LEE highlighted the diplomatic relationsfriendship and cooperationbetween both countries, which have been greatly strengthened in recent years, after completing sixty years of their establishment.
Artistic participation
For this reception the embassy invited several traditional artists koreans to the delight of the attendees.
- The first artistic presentation was by the famous korean interpreter Seok-young HONG and Master Won-sik KIM, playing the Daegeum instruments and Janggu. He Daegeum is a traditional Korean wind instrument made of bamboo and its records date back 1,500 years. It is characterized by a lyrical, striking and strong tone.
- The second artistic presentation was given by teacher Mi Young YANG, who gave her presentation of hanji, traditional paper from Korea, very famous for its delicate beauty and remarkable durability.
This unique paper has been used on windows instead of glass in the past and is preferred for restoring priceless masterpieces, including works found in the Louvre Museum in France.
Artist Yang has meticulously reproduced the ceremonial process real represented in the “Uigwe“, a collection of royal protocols from the Joseon Dynasty.
After the protocol and artistic program, the guests proceeded to enjoy the hansik either Korean Gastronomywhere the embassy provided exquisite canapés and dishes koreansaccompanied by traditional drinks.
