José Andrés Duarte, president of Cotelco, told REPORTUR.co that emphasis should be placed on improving safety for Travel on Colombia’s roads and for a para-Hotel industry that is growing out of control.
“It is essential to improve security and confidence in Travel within the country. We must protect and send clear signals of security on the roads and territories, since the perception of insecurity directly affects the national tourist,” Duarte told REPORTUR.co.
He also referred to the importance of combating the para-Hotel industry, “which grows without control and without respecting territorial planning plans, horizontal property regulations or complying with operating commitments such as the TRA and the SIRE. This activity does not compensate in terms of taxes, nor does it generate jobs or productive chains,” Duarte told this newspaper.
As reported by REPORTUR.co, Duarte recently pointed out that the advantages of lowering the VAT tax to 5%, both on airline tickets and hotels, are greater, since the revenue would be higher as the sector becomes more dynamic. (Cotelco: VAT reduced to 5% on Flights and hotels increases revenue).
“We have the figures, we have the data and we have shared it with the Government. The 5% VAT could stimulate the arrival of businesses to formal establishments that are creating jobs and generating other contributions through operational income. This is a way to positively energize the sector because there could be greater revenue due to increased spending,” Duarte told this newspaper at the time.
