The Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System of the Dominican Republic (Fitram) published the tender for the construction of the tunnels for the train Metropolitan of Santo Domingoas well as other elements of the work.
The Metropolitan Train will have the capacity to transport between 20 thousand to 30 thousand passengers per hour from the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center to Las Americas International Airport (AILA), and so far it has been announced that it will be operated by an automatic system.
This project is part of the Integrated Transportation System of the Dominican Republic and will have 20 stations, which will allow Travel in 20 minutes on a journey that currently takes about two hours.
According to the Fitram website, the project will be 32 kilometres long, of which 22 kilometres will be at ground level and a large part of the route will run along the cliff of Avenida Ecológica.
The first phase, Santo Domingo-AILA, is expected to begin this year, followed by the second phase from Avenida 27 de Febrero to Pintura and the Prolongación 27 de Febrero in Santo Domingo Oeste.
