The President of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Jose Marte Piantini, He reported that air connectivity is a fundamental axis for the country’s economic development, referring to the total number of operations carried out to and from Dominican territory, from August 2020 to June 2024.
“A total of 438,836 incoming and outgoing air operations were carried out through international airport terminals, with an average frequency of 1,275 Flights per week to different destinations, under the charter and regular Flight modality,” he said.
He added that the 438,836 air operations, resulting from the movement of passengers and merchandise, resulted in direct and indirect income estimated at 49,807 million dollars for the Dominican economy.
He stressed that air transport at the end of this first period of government of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader leaves a positive balance as a result of the actions taken by the members of the plenary, during these four years, “the current management has been of great challenges and important achievements for the sector, whose horizon is set on continuing to develop connectivity and air transport, which is evidenced by the authorization of 46,002 air operations under the non-regular or charter modality and 18,940 Flights approved under the Special Permits modality.”
This was announced in his fourth management report, as head of the organization responsible for establishing the highest policy for commercial aviation in the country. “Air connectivity is crucial for the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Dominican Republic,” said the president of the JAC, reporting that the national territory currently has 281 new connections, resulting in the establishment of new routes to multiple destinations around the world.
Marte Piantini offered a detailed account of the achievements of the organization during these four years, in which he detailed the main actions of his administration, which have allowed the strengthening of civil aviation in the Dominican territory.
He stressed that, since August 2020, Dominicans have access to more global destinations. However, he explained the need to continue expanding the country’s air connectivity network so that national air operators can reach other markets.
“This expansion reflects President Abinader’s efforts to continue strengthening the national airline industry and facilitating trade and investment,” he said.
