After criticism for the construction of the luxury Hotel in Tulum’s Jaguar Park without the corresponding environmental permit, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) finally asked the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to formalize the construction after having work started last year.
“The project consists of the use of land for the construction of a Hotel infrastructure in Tulum, Quintana Roo, including its connecting roads. For this purpose, different phases are planned, such as site preparation, project construction, operation, maintenance and abandonment of the site,” they explain in the MIA.
The Hotel is located at the entrance to Tulum, near an airport that is out of service and within the area of the Jaguar National Park, which was decreed as a Protected Natural Area (ANP), as reported by Sipse.
The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) will invest close to USD 38 million in this Hotel. These works complement the Mayan Train, since one of the stations is located nearby.
“The components and complementary works that will support the constructive development of the regional railway project “Mayan Train” were established, being in this case, the construction of the Hotel infrastructure,” complements the MIA.
As reported REPORTUR.mxAt the end of May, the construction of a luxury Hotel in Jaguar Park, Tulum, was advancing rapidly under the supervision of Sedena. This development was carried out until that moment without the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) having published the authorization of the Environmental Impact Statement, which generated concern about compliance with environmental commitments.
