Police agents from the Eastern Regional Investigation Subdirectorate (Dicrim), based in the province of La Romana, managed to dismantle a criminal structure dedicated to the commission of robberies and armed robberies against businesses and merchandise distribution trucks in the eastern region of the country. .
The detainees are Joaquín Antonio Rodríguez Matos (a) Richar, 32 years old; Miguel Ángel de Aza Núñez, 26; Jaime Leonel Ávila Peguero (a) Chimbilin, 27; Lisselotte Bastardo Morla, 23, and Carlos Ismael Nolasco Severino, 31.
Three more members of the band, identified only by the nicknames “Jeisel”, “Tan” and “Castillito”, are fugitives and are being searched.
The gang robbed businesses and merchandise distribution trucks at gunpoint in the eastern region of the country. One of their last robberies was to a warehouse where they stole four cash registers.
As a result of the arduous investigation work, Rodríguez Matos (a) Richar was arrested on Venezuela Avenue, in the Santo Domingo Este municipality, while he was traveling in a Honda CRV brand jeep. Inside the vehicle, a 9mm caliber pistol charger was found, a package with RD$30,000 in cash, a cell phone, five watches, four pairs of tennis shoes and other items allegedly coming from the robbery.
“Richar” led authorities to an area of the dam where four coats, five balaclavas, two pairs of gloves and a plastic badge with the number A345678 had been thrown. Subsequently, they moved to the El Soco community, province of San Pedro de Macorís, where the four stolen cash registers were located.
A relative of “Richar” voluntarily handed over the Browning 380 caliber pistol, with the numbering filed, which was used in the assault.
The detainees admitted their participation in the assault on the aforementioned commercial establishment and will be brought to justice, via the Public Ministry.
The dismantling of this criminal gang represents a significant blow to citizen security in the Eastern region of the country. It is hoped that the capture of the fugitives and the recovery of stolen property will help deter such criminal activities.
