More foreign tourists arrive but fewer South Americans

The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco, announced that, in the first four months of 2024, 39 million 893 thousand air passengers were transported, of which, 19 million 111 thousand passengers were on domestic Flights and 20 million 782 thousand passengers were on international Flights.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that in the case of domestic Flights the number of passengers transported in the same period of 2019 is 16.8% higher, while, in international Flights, the increase is 8.6%. compared to the same period in 2023.

He indicated that, regarding domestic Flights, the airlines with the highest passenger flow during January-April 2024 were: Viva Aerobus and Volaris, which transported 13 million 423 thousand passengers, exceeding the figure for 2019, with an increase of 64.1%.

The five main airlines with the highest passenger arrivals on domestic Flights in the first four months of 2024 were: Viva Aerobus with 7 million 100 thousand passengers, Volaris with 6 million 322 thousand passengers, Aeroméxico with 3 million 971 thousand passengers transported, Aeroméxico Connect with a million 462 thousand passengers, and TAR with 76 thousand 112 passengers transported.

As for the main Mexican airlines that transported passengers on international Flights, they were Aeroméxico and Volaris with 4 million 311 thousand passengers, this is 14.3% more than in the same period of 2023, and 36% more in relation to passengers in the first quarter of 2019.

The US airlines that had the highest passenger flow in the first quarter of 2024 were American Airlines and United Airlines, which transported 4 million 849 thousand passengers, 7% more than in January-April 2023, also exceeding the passengers of the same period of 2019 with 50% more.

Regarding passengers transported on international Flights during January-April 2024, according to the main markets, North America concentrates a share of 87% of the total, while 2 million 341 passengers traveled on Canadian Flights, which represents an increase of 12.9% more compared to the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, one million 229 thousand passengers were transported to our country from the European market; from Central and South America there were one million 367 thousand passengers and from the Asian market there were 98 thousand 992 passengers.
